So, if you were planning on coming to one of my shows at the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH this weekend, I’m embarrassed to say they’re canceled. Totally out of the blue, the venue shut down, and dudeman who booked me seems to have vanished.

Scrambled to get an alternate venue, but, alas, it didn’t come together. I’m hoping I can get a makeup gig that’ll honor tickets for the Stone Church. I do want to make it super clear that I don’t have your money—they do.

Again, I am REALLY SORRY. Hope I can make amends soon.

So, I just got out of the ER here in Brooklyn, where I spent a very scary couple of hours being nearly unable to breathe. Me being me, my main regret is that I was too sick to live-tweet it.

But, anyway, it’d be stupid of me to get on a plane this weekend to come to California—so the Bootleg Theater show, and the appearance on Paul F. Tompkins’ Largo shindig on Saturday night are canceled.

Really sorry everybody. This sucks. I’ll keep you posted on a make-up date.

Mike Doughty has formed his own independent microlabel, Snack Bar, and will release Hotshot’s Boy, the debut EP by The Panderers, in early March. The Panderers are the project of Indiana singer-songwriter Scott Wynn; Pete McNeal (drummer for Mike Doughty’s Band) co-produced the EP with Dave Wilder (bassist for Macy Gray and Liz Phair, among others). In 2002, Mike Doughty released a limited-edition live album, Smofe + Smang: Live In Minneapolis. It sold out very quickly, and has been a highly sought-after collector’s piece ever since. Now, by popular demand, Mike is re-releasing an abridged version of the album, called Half Smofe. It’s on sale now, only from Mike’s online store.

As many of you have read on Mike’s blog, he’s been working on some electronic music for a live DJ set. Dan Wilson produced, again, but it’s a little different than Haughty Melodic. It’s got more of a band feel. My genius live band—Pete McNeal (drums), John Kirby (keyboards), and Andrew “Scrap” Livingston (he plays bass with me live, but he played guitar on this one)—are the core of the album.

Our guiding principle was something we called “dude theory,” which meant that it should sound like a bunch of visualize-able dudes; a band, in other words. It was a way of keeping the music spacious.

John Munson, who played bass on Haughty, and Ken Chastain, who played percussion, are also on this one, along with guitarist David Levita and singer Mankwe Ndosi.

Two of the new songs are on Myspace now.

I’ll be debuting a lot of the Golden Delicious tunes in The Question Jar Show. The entire tour is almost completely sold out, but if you can get a ticket, the deal is that the audience puts questions in a jar, which I will answer between songs. No question too weird! No topic taboo!
